Re: What should I know before a battery replacement?

Yesterday, my Soul EV calibrated for the second time. This time I ended up with SOH = 58%. So the trend is consistent. If my personal experience is any indication, Kia really should notify its dealers NOT to park their EVs in direct sun for extended periods. In my case, I purchased 2 models of 2015/...

Re: What should I know before a battery replacement?

...Was I mistaken in understanding that 27 kWh = 100% SOH, and 110% comes from Kia unofficially installing overcapacity 30 kWh batteries in new models?.. Yes. 27 kWh = 100% SOH of Usable Capacity. The actual total capacity of a 27 kWh Soul EV is 30.5kWh Part of this extra capacity is a buffer that ...

Re: What should I know before a battery replacement?

I am a recent '15 battery recipient. I got a remanufactured pack, rated at 110% SOH, same as the original 27kWh pack. I don't expect it to degrade any worse than a new one, we don't know how many of the cells have been replaced, it could even be all of them! So far mine has not degraded at all (aro...

What should I know before a battery replacement?

I recently purchased a 2015 Soul EV in great cosmetic shape, but with less-than-ideal range. Before completing the purchase, I learned a fair bit from folks here in the forum and checked the SOH with SoulSpy. At that time, the SOH read 76% with a fully-charged range of ~65mi. Not great, but sufficie...

Re: Soul Spy?

I noticed the other day while monitoring the car while my son was driving down the highway that the motor temp got as high as 53c. I have also noticed that the odbc.temp3 temp rises to 53c while Level 2 charging and then drops back down to high 30s again. Can anyone confirm that these temps are nor...

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Yes, those are the counters I was referring to. I'd guess that anything more than about 260 so 10 full charging cycles would be enough to allow the BMS to start relearning the SoH. By that point it may not have the actual values but it would definitely be trending in the right direction. I did go a...

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

On your backup car check the cumulative charge and discharge figures. If the car has had a recent BMS update then it zeros out those counters and sets the SOH to 110% until it relearns the battery state. If the cumulative charge and discharge figures are very low then the SOH may not be a true read...

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Another update, in case this experience helps anyone who comes across it down the road... Yesterday I drove the car as conservatively as possible - no AC, ECO on, and trying as hard as possible to stretch out the battery with careful acceleration and braking. I brought the car below 10% battery and...

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

I would suggest that you explain your concerns to the dealer you purchased from and request an extension to the return time and mileage or you will have no choice but to return it. They may be more accommodating to save the deal. Thank you for the suggestion. I did call the dealer yesterday, effect...

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

- Okay. Here's some guesswork, based on previous cases. The car was at 89% SOH when it went into the dealer lot before the summer. It has been sitting in the sun throughout the summer fully charged. If you had many days with 40C temperatures, this is very, very bad for the battery. The car could ea...
