Re: How important is a battery warranty on a 2017 Kia Soul EV?

The KIA warranty is worth paying the additional amount. The mileage is less significant than the source of the car - California-hot-bad for battery longevity, and no Kia warranty on the battery

Re: Buying a 2018

10th character H. 27 kWh, sorry.

However, here's something to weigh in the balance. The 27 kWh has the ability to set charging to stop at 80%. The 30 kWh can't do that, so I have to estimate time to charge to 80% and set start and end time. Not so good.

Re: Am I charging too often

Are you sure you have the charging option set to 100%? If it happens to be set to the start time/stop time option, that may explain your experience.

If you don't have the Owners Manual,, here's a link.

Many owners have found that it does not work. Does it work on yours, and, if so, what year is it?

Re: Heat pump stopped working, no apparent cause

Perhaps JejuSoul could supply an address for the parent company in Korea? I suspect the Canadian company has decided to hush it up, but if that's an independent decision, not dictated by the parent company, such an approach could unstick things. No harm in mentioning you are contemplating legal acti...

Re: Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

If the BMS masks the reserve, it presumably does not allow it to be accessed for charge or discharge, until the capacity has deteriorated sufficiently to require it to be unmasked to restore the usable capacity.

Re: Does charging only to 80% really make a difference?

With the major component of customer resistance to EVs being range, it is no surprise that KIA would choose not to publicise the benefit of restricted charging, if it is real. Whether it IS real is hard to pin down, but this article asserts it is. Scroll down to "Avoiding Full Charging". I...

Re: Better mileage using "B-mode" all the time, or only some of the time?

Using D to allow air resistance and friction to slow the car instead of regenerative braking to the same degree is an illusory benefit. The energy lost in slowing is just that - lost. When you want to resume the former speed, you have to expend the same amount of energy with either method. The diffe...

Re: DIY LED headlights - did not work out.

I'd say they will make too little difference to power consumption to notice. Let's say you are driving at an average speed of 50mph and a consumption of 4 miles/kWh. In one hour you will use 50/4 =15 kWh. Lets say your headlamps use 100W, so in an hour 0.1 kWh, and the LEDs can cut that to 20W, so y...
