Re: Kia Soul EV dashboard: ECO electric and SOUL logo, white or green?

The logo is normally white unless you are in "B" and then it switches to green. That first photo is puzzling because it shows the car in "D" but the logo is green. I think that's probably just a glitch in the cluster software - I've seen other glitches e.g. the red battery sectio...

Re: 12V Battery Replacement ?

The original is just a normal wet battery but low/no maintenance. When I replaced mine it came up as taking a normal one that I can top up.

Double check which car the battery is for, I think the one for the EV is a slightly different size than the ICE one.

Re: Battery Ageing Model

Start the warranty process now, there's no benefit to waiting.

Re: Error Message: "Cannot start engine... "

Your 12V battery is low, it should be mid 13V with everything turned off (no lights on etc). The car looks to be charging it properly as it is mid 14V when the car is turned on. I suspect that 12V battery has just enough voltage to turn on the car and start it charging from the main battery, but it ...

Re: Error Message: "Cannot start engine... "

Check your 12V battery with the car turned on and again with it off.

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Yes, those are the counters I was referring to. I'd guess that anything more than about 260 so 10 full charging cycles would be enough to allow the BMS to start relearning the SoH. By that point it may not have the actual values but it would definitely be trending in the right direction.

Re: Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

On your backup car check the cumulative charge and discharge figures. If the car has had a recent BMS update then it zeros out those counters and sets the SOH to 110% until it relearns the battery state. If the cumulative charge and discharge figures are very low then the SOH may not be a true readi...

Re: Battery degradation... should I care?

They do degrade, but typically much slower than a Leaf as there is a battery fan. There are plenty of reports of people getting battery replacements, but typically in hot environments or where the car has been driven hard (lots of highway mileage). The Soul EV is an aerodynamic brick, it does a lot ...

Re: How to stop charging?

I'm not familiar with the 2nd gen, but on the first gen the lock is the same as the door lock. Also it's not really a serious lock, if you get something long and thin then you can just push the lock pin back in.

Re: How to stop charging?

Presumably you are talking about Level 2 charging. Just unplug, it is perfectly safe and the connector is designed to be unplugged while in use. There is a pin that the car uses to tell the EVSE to supply power, it is shorter than the pins that carry the power. As you pull the cable out then that si...
