Re: Level 1 charges; level 2 does not - 2016 KIa Soul EV

Similar issue for me - my 2016 is failing to charge when my EVSE (OpenEVSE) is set for 28A or more - if I throttle it to 16A, it charges just fine. I tried someone else’s Chargepoint home L2 at 32A and it failed as well. But lower powered L2 at the office works OK. The symptom on my L2 at home is th...

Re: The origin of the 'B' mode setting.

My contrarian view. The shifter design of the Soul was a major reason I bought the car. I wanted something for all the others in my family that was perfectly intuitive for them to drive just like the Auto transmission ICE cars we already have. They've learned safe driving on snow and the importance ...

Re: Chargepoint stations and less than 6.6 kWh charging

I just finished building an OpenEVSE L1/L2 50A wide voltage deluxe kit. This gave me a chance to test out how the car behaves with varying pilot signals. On 240V the EVSE changes the pilot signal in 2A increments. Any setting 28A and the car charged at 27.5A which came out to 6.6kW. When the pilot ...

Re: 15 inch or 16 inch winter tires?

I got my winter tyre setup from the Frisby Tire at Eagleson & Hazledean. It's just using the standard black steel wheels that everyone runs their winter tyres on, not sure if they are OEM or generics. I had them put TPMS sensors in and those are OEM. LOL I should have gone to Frisby in the firs...

Re: 15 inch or 16 inch winter tires?

Just put my winter wheels on this morning. I don't think the 15" would fit over the caliper. Sigh - you got that right. The 15" steel wheel from TireRack is 13" ID at the mounting plane to the brake disk - eg. max clearance would be 6.5" from the center of the axle. I measure th...

Re: 15 inch or 16 inch winter tires?

I ordered the 15" XIce tires and steelies from TireRack ... plan to try to fit them in the next 2 weeks or so ... fingers crossed. Its just been a little too warm to put the snows on quite yet. On a similar but different note, I'm wondering what you guys are doing for rubber mats ? I just saw o...

Transient warning and turtle light

I ran into something a week ago on my 2016. Was somewhere around 80-90% charge and driving around the neighborhood running errands. While accelerating, I felt a bit of a wheel slip / jolt (felt like that anyway) - then the warning light came on but car was still driving OK so kept going. A few min l...

Re: Molded floor mat/Homelink mirror

I just looked up some Kia Soul HomeLink mirrors on eBay. Saw a couple for under $150 but when I used the model checker on the site and selected 2016 Kia Sould EV it said not compatible. The one I found was $230 which looks the same but has a slight different ending part number. Anyway I'm not sure ...

Re: Ontario - Bosch chargers not eligible for rebates

... if one does not have the competence gained in high school tech and Co op courses, perhaps selecting an approritate wire and running it between a pair of terminals isn't a good idea ;) LOL - Perhaps you'd be surprised how little technical competence exists in the "technically literate"...
