The EVSE one on your picture is 3-phase with Type2 connector on the car side.

But there is also a Type1 model which should work.

Thanks Elmil, it is probably that one he was using.

I can see why lack of coolant would make the charger too hot so it would slow down/stop the charging and take longer to charge. Similarly the inverter would get too hot without coolant and trigger turtle mode to stop it frying the electronics.

Hi there, just started reading this massive thread, but I have the same problem

I owned the Kia 4 days before the supplied L1 EVSE got the charger error. I tried a neighbourhood L2 EVSE and it wouldn't work either. Took it into the dealer and they diagnosed a OBC fault. The part will take 3 weeks to get here form Korea!

4 days and the darned thing broke...

I'll add that I'm in British Columbia and the Soul is a 2017 Lux

whew... finished the 26 pages of this thread. Wish I had the car to take pics of the labels.

Just posting to note how many this is happening to. I had my OBC replaced in 1 day by my Bay Area Kia dealer. In my case there was no error message - the charging process would just stop a few seconds after starting. 2015 model year, I was able to charge for almost 2 years without issues.

Hope they give you another EV while you are waiting. It's incredible that 3 years on, and this problem is still happening with brand new cars.

Randomly asking other Soul owners at the recent user forum I found that over 50% of 2 year old cars had had the OBC changed. Am glad yours was fixed in a single day.

Yet again there is a rumour that a recall will begin soon once they are sure the latest version is fixed.

Got the car back today! Little faster than was expected. Total cost was $2600 CAD. On the work order it said that this was an "updated" OBC

Good news. And thanks for the photos.
Your failed OBC was version 12.2R., built around 10th July 2016. That is seen from the second sticker. The top unit is still the original. The replaced OBC is the unit just below that. The new OBC is version 14.1R built 27th Feb 2017. So we haven't proved yet that the version 14s are also failing. And we don't know if there is a newer version than version 14.

I like the DYMO sticker on the OBC ... :D
Like i understand this sticker : the charger is a refurbished one.

Well, that a solution after all : create a new serie to change the failed charger now ... and wait a stack to repair the failed chargers returned.

Not really a problem because many industry do this (hardrive industry for example, but gearbox industry, too)

My turn. OBC died Thursday night with 37,500 miles on the odometer. I'll book an appointment with the dealer for next week.
