Hello everyone this is my first post in what seems to be a well used and knowledgeable forum I loved the 26 page thread on OBC issues!

This question is about UK and perhaps European? Cars so does not apply to those of you on the other side of the pond but you may well have some advice.

Background:
In the UK we do not have UVO.
In fact we don't have any form remote intelligent functions in the Soul EV.
Perhaps KIA consider us in the UK less worthy or something :(

Most cars are sold by specialist EV dealers only about 20 in the UK and even so there is lots of confusion at the dealership service dept level even in how to update the Sat Nav Maps.
We can't buy an SD card with the maps on, we have to go to a KIA Dealer to get it done as a chargeable piece of work and often the dealers fail to perform the updates on first attempt judging by some other threads I have read.

Often the cars are provided new with Sat NAV maps that are years out of date and worse, as a result so is the list of Charging stations
I bought mine on 1st April 2017 as a one year old ex dealer demonstrator and the dates on the SD card are all 2014!

We are told to update the maps often also requires AVN firmware updates as well hence the need to visit a dealer for me that is a 150 mile round trip and an entire day lost.

Feature like AA or Car Play would be quite useful to owners in the UK simply to be able to use RTTI for traffic and access updated charging station locations without having to interact separately with the phone handset
FYI
Here in the UK interacting in any way with a mobile phone in a vehicle even when stationary is a crime with a fine and 6 points on ones driving licence if reported, 6 is a lot because 9 points = a ban!

Identifying my AVN type and Version

This is part of my quest to try and find out why my 2016 Soul EV can not get Carplay or Android Auto (according to Kia Customer Services)
Maybe the AVN head unit is different to vehicles produced only a few month later?

But for now I am assuming it is purely down to the Firmware I may be wrong but in the first instance I would like to compare versions of mine to those that do have it working in the UK 2017 model year apparently

I saw this
http://kia.oemdtc.com/173/avn-4-0-uvo-eservices-dealer-engineering-mode-2015-kia-optima

I would like to know if the same can be done for the non UVO versions
If so how?

We don't have a Setup button on the UK version

To date the only info I can get out of mine is this:

Your image isn't showing up, looks like it comes from the SpeakEV forums and those refuse to show images unless you are logged in.

Here in Canada we don't have the UVO or any other remote access functions, but we do have the setup button, you can see the layout in the picture of it doing the reversing camera http://www.kia.ca/content/2017-soulev/highlights/rearview-camera-l.jpg

Once the Setup button is pressed then it brings up a selection screen, one of the options being System Information and that contains the versions including firmware data. Here I believe the SD card contains firmware update data - when you plug it in it goes through updating lots of things and not just the map data. We didn't have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay when the system shipped but it is now available with just an SD card update.

Yes that was from a post on SpeakEV sorry, brain fade, replaced it with one from Photobucket.
I have the SW and Map version etc what I don't have is a method to get the AVN unit info like in the link I posted

The picture you have posted is the same screen that we have here that I was talking about. Sorry but I don't know of anyway to get the AVN unit info, I haven't seen it on our Canadian ones.

No update for me, too ... in europea area.
Me too, the mecanical guy don't understand the "need to update" that i have request on MYKIA scheduled revision.
But i shutdown the GPS panel all the time and i lease the car, so ... no need to loose time with Kia after-market.

More details on the AVN DEALER ENGINEERING MODE here. - https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/UCM512020/SB-10060168-2280.pdf

This pdf has a list of the troubleshooting codes. And shows the email / password to use.
Will test it later today.

Unfortunately that PDF is for the US UVO type head unit
The UK/European one is different

There probably is a a similar sequence to get in to engineering mode but from which screen and where to press is a mystery.

Maybe this helps:

How to find your Device ID

i. Switch on your navigation system and wait until the system is completely booted.
ii. Press Setup key for a minimum of 5 seconds and a configuration of your system will be displayed.
iii. Note the Device ID (12 characters example: 001EB2D36510).

I couldn't get either of those two methods to do anything.

I do have UVO for a few more weeks but will not be continuing it after the free subscription ends. We get two years free, then 10,000 won a month (about $10 USD). I don't use the UVO app because it doesn't run on a rooted phone.

Saw this screen for the first time when pushing the vehicle diagnostics button.

Hi notfred,

So to be clear, the photo that you posted is the layout of your AVN, ins't it?
If so is very diferent to the layout in Europe, so although it's a good news that you can update the AVN to have Android Auto, I don't know if the same could be done with our 2015-16 AVN. Here Kia said us that the system has to be 1.0 to be able to accept the update. The question is, how we can know the AVN version? If someone know it'd be great.
Cheers.

Yes, the picture I posted is what we get here in Canada. I know it supports Android Auto but we don't have Uvo.
I don't know how to determine the AVN version.
