How the Kia Soul EV fares in a crash

Some of you here may have already seen the video on the Kia Soul EV Facebook page. This was our beloved Kia, which performed like a champ both before and during the accident.

The Kia is totaled, but considering how fast the other car was going, it held its own.

Sorry to see your EV get messed up. Glad you are ok and that the car called 911 automatically.

What dash camera do you have? I want to get one but there are so many to pick from. I want a good quality reliable one.

Unfortunately the NHTSA hasn't done any tests on the Soul EV, although structurally it should be similar to the Soul which does well

When you receive it, make sure you the recordings are recorded as .MOV files. I previously ordered from another vendor what I thought was a high-quality camera, but it turns out they were selling older generation internals, which recorded AVI files. The quality was far worse and blurry. I know that .MOV and .AVI are just video file containers and aren't indicative of video quality, but it is an easy way to clue in on the chip included in the DVR.

Mine has been performing flawlessly.

I also got some additional pieces to make the camera appear less visible.

I used these clips to clip the cable running from the rear view mirror against the top of the windshield. I place a few of these directly on the windshield and also near the power supply unit.

I used this USB cable instead of the included cable. More than a few of my friends who bought DVRs for their cars stop using them because they rather charge their smartphones. Why not both? I use this cable along with a dual port USB charger so you can plug both the DVR AND a smartphone into a power supply. Just get any that provides at least 2.4 amps.

Lastly, you can use the included suction cup, but I recommend this mirror mount which reduces the footprint of the DVR. This particular mount fits the DVR perfectly and doesn't leave an unsightly suction print from the outside of the car.
