Free update to Android Auto/Apple Carplay?

Sun Apr 19, 2020 2:35 pm

I heard that Kia is offering a way to update the system to natively support Android Auto and Apple Carplay for 2015-2019 Kia Soul EVs (and probably others too). Does anyone know how to do this? There's a tutorial on YouTube but that method no longer works apparently (plus it was for Canada and I'm in the US). Should I just take mine into the dealer and have them do it (when that can happen) or is there another way?

Thanks!

Are you sure it does not already do it? My Soul EV (built late 2017) does, according to the manual. I've not tried it - I use a Windows Phone.

I've not taken delivery of the used 2016 Kia Soul EV+ yet, but my understanding is that at least up to 2016 model year it was not standard. I guess I will find out in the next few weeks! Maybe the previous owner had it upgraded. Or, since it is Kia Certified Previously Owned maybe they did the upgrade. I will report back when I find out.

I looked into this as we're buying a '16. As near as I can tell it's included with a software update from a partner company to Kia. MapNSoft.com is where you go to get it. In theory if you download it online, it's free. If you order it as physical media it's $25US. According to features update,
https://storage.googleapis.com/mapcare_ ... res_S4.pdf, Apple CarPlay was added in version 10.5. The latest version, version 14, was released yesterday and should be available for download May 15th. We'll see. Finding the download site doesn't appear to be straightforward. It might turn out to be easier to just buy the media.

I'm completely fine with spending $25 for the update if it includes those features, but of course "free" is usually preferred... Thanks for the link. I'll check it out!

I just bought a ‘17 and was anxiously awaiting the option to download the new update via MapNSoft’s site, but when it didn’t come 5/15 as they’d said, I called in, and they said that only the late model cars can download, everyone else has to order the SD for $25.

Still better than the $149 they used to charge for software updates, so I’m not complaining.

Well worth it, I can’t imagine not having AA/CarPlay in such a great vehicle.
