Is it possible to modify the obd plug to scan the m-can ?
Is there a pin layout drawing somwhere ?

I am assuming that it will work if I make a cable that connect the usual can-pins on the dongle, to the m-can pins in the obd-connector.
I was planning to make a splitter, and use 2 dongles, but I haven't gotten to it yet.
For pin numbers, see http://www.mykiasoulev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=135#p1772

Thank you for support Ray, but it seems only LDC is working and others are not.
I attached screenshot.

See the screenshots > https://photos.app.goo.gl/iQ1YeVpx31GNwoUj1

I looked at the soulspy.log files (and the screenshots): I think the Ray EV was not turned fully on.

For logging data from the Kia Soul EV, either the car needs to be ready to drive; or L1 charging; when connecting the app to the dongle.

Also note that the "Auto connect" feature is broken, so please disable that. I believe it causes weird crashes, as well as weird log-files.

I have a '16 and, with the app, following the procedure I get the exact same readings as in the Ray EV screenshots. Connected to the dongle. Dongle lights show running scans. I get no vehicle info, battery or advisor info. All blank. I have used this dongle with torquepro on this vehicle and it has successfully connected to the ecu in the past. What can I be doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

Is your car a Soul or a Ray?

I can reproduce the symptoms in my '15 Soul by not pressing the brake pedal, when turning on the car. When brake pedal not pressed, the car is not fully on, and all CAN-requests time out. No data displayed.

When I then press the brake pedal, and press the car 'on' button again, the dongle lights starts blinking faster (no timeouts), an data appears on the views, when I switch view.

If you still see the problem, disable auto-connect, kill the app or restart the phone, and try again.

If still no data, please send the soulspy log file: henrik.scheel o spjeldager.dk.

Sorry my mistake. It's working well on Ray.
The car was not turned on. I was confused :roll:

Are we sure that there is only 100 or 101 bat.cell in the 30kWh 2018 ?

Based on this wiki info, if the 27kWh has 96 the 30kWh has 104 or am I missing something here...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Soul_EV

from one of my soulspy log files I have seen that the one marked RED is always following the "known" batcel. with the same value

The 2018 Soul EV has 100 cell pairs. Your post above has two highlighted in red. Which one is the 'follower'?

The Wikipedia article is guessing that the " the usable window of cell capacity improved from 37,5 Ah to 40 Ah out of 42,36 Ah."
My guess is that the energy density of the cells was improved from 37,5 Ah to 40 Ah. --- see Newer Soul EVs and battery pack upgrades
I think it is very unlikely that they decreased the percentage of the battery used as a buffer, hence I much prefer my guess.

We don't know the total capacity of the battery yet, nor the size of the buffer lost before loss of usable capacity occurs, which is why I don't add the extra gauges that show the 110% SOH etc to my Torque files.

Sorry typo error, they are both following

Question about SoulSpy..
When you see the logfiles.... soulspy.logDateTimestamp and SoulData.DateTimestamp

Is it possible to make DateTime first and then Soulspy and SoulData

Reason for question is ... when you have a lot of files in a folder it is easier to sort them based on DateTime

Sample:
201802061501.soulspylog.txt
201802061501.SoulData.csv

It is usually possible to sort the listing by the operating system's timestamp for the file.

What are you trying to achieve by listing the log and data files next to each other?

Perhaps there is a better way to achieve it, than using different file names.

My problem is/was that when I transfered 40 files from my pad to computer via bluetooth they all got almost the same time stamp as a file attribute and then when you sort them you will see all SoulData#### first and then soulspy.log#### and now I have to look at the #### to find the pair of SoulData and Soulspy.log

No big deal... I have sorted them now

You did not answer my question: What do you achieve by getting them sorted in pairs?

From my personal point of view;

When you have files that "belong" to each other with raw data and result data I find it easier to keep them together in pair

SoulSpy create SoulData.20171230_1259.csv files and soulspy.log201712301259.txt files and when you then have like 40 files in the folder and sort them by name you will get all SoulData#### files first and then all soulspy.log#### files after that

As long as they are stored on my tablet I can keep them sorted the way I like based on time/date in the file attribute but when I copy/move them to my computer they all get the same date and almost the same time stamp.

So if the two sample files above had started with 20171230_1259.SoulData.csv and 201712301259.soulspy.log.txt they had been a pair when you sorted them based on filename

Hi, we are group of students from Russia, currently working on project with Kia Soul EV.
We are trying to manipulate can bus messages, but we only can see PID up to 690 on C_CAN, I guess it is only for diagnostic data.
However many commands (beams, door lock) are at 700+ PIDs. Can you give us some hint how can we access those PIDs, please?

Am now looking at some data from a really new 2018 Soul EV . It is showing Max Det = zero and Min Det = 100%.
This is not the same behaviour as all previous Soul EVs. Including earlier 2018 models. It is the same as the I oniq EV.
In that car Max Det and Min Det have been removed and instead it shows SOH in the same position.

Hi everyone,

I have a 2016 Soul EV and have a few questions about Soul Spy. I've read through tons of this thread, but I'll be honest - I'm still confused as to how to read some of the results. I'm trying to understand how much capacity my battery has lost. We've had the car for 2 years and 8 months and have only put about 15k miles on it (we're in the Pacific NW in the US, so generally a friendly climate for these batteries).

After charging to 100%, Soul Spy tells me the following:

Code:
battery.SOC_display_pct = 100
battery.SOC_pct = 95

Should I read this as the overall battery has lost 5% of it's total capacity?

Here are the stats regarding max/min deterioration:

Code:
battery.max_cell_deterioration_pct = 8.7
battery.min_cell_deterioration_pct = 6.8

And here are some images from the app:

Thanks for any guidance!

Your battery is in great shape. You have lost some of the buffer at the top but the usable capacity is 100%.
The thread for discussing battery data is here - Battery Ageing Model

SoulSpy is still under development. It would be great if it could be the main app that people use to get the battery data, but for now most of us are still using Torque Pro.
