Re: Battery Backorder? Since Nov '21

Warranty replacement of the traction battery finally approved today! Fortunately it is uniform capacity loss without sick cells, so we’ll just drive it till the replacement battery comes in. Only downside of being at 82k miles now is that the replacement pack will be barely broken in when the warran...

Re: Battery Backorder? Since Nov '21

Hi Bernard, My ‘16 with 82k miles is entering week 2 at KIA of Puyallup, WA. Diagnosed at 65% SOC on day 2 in the shop, we’ve been awaiting a response from Corporate since. My car is is usable, which is good since there’s been no improvement in the lead times for battery replacement. This is after I...

Re: 2016 needs Onboard Charger

I haven’t studied the job on a SOUL EV, but have swapped in salvaged chargers on the I-MiEV and early LEAF without trouble. $400 at the junkyard and no reprogramming required.

Re: Roof top carrier vs trailer hitch cargo rack? Effect on mileage

I guarantee the difference will be noticeably better with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier than a rooftop box. Main downside is further reduction of our tenuous FWD Traction in hill-climbing…. I ran back-to back tests with my RWD I-MiEV a decade ago, and then stuck with the hitch rather than roof whene...

Re: Hitch Installation

Pen pal, I don’t know what country you’re writing from, but if you’re insured to operate the vehicle, your liability coverage is valid in the USA even if you decide to tow 5 tons with a Soul EV while drinking a beer with one hand and holding a phone in the other. Sure, they’ll drop you like a hot po...

Re: Reported battery SOH improving over time, rather than the reverse?

The saga continues. 63.4 SOH according to SOULSPY on January 27th became 70.3% at the dealer by March, and now on April 12th, it measures 70.6%! Warming weather and sitting at 100% seems to only boost this SOH algorithm.. For good measure I used it on a max range run the night before, and a full rec...

Re: Reported battery SOH improving over time, rather than the reverse?

I'm in the same boat as Bernard, south of Seattle with a 74 kilomile 2016 that hit 63.4% SOH on 1/27/22 when I set my dealer appointment for warranty EValuation. A job change meant that I went from over 151 miles per day of driving (with 4 DCFC) to largely virtual work, and usage dropped to maybe 12...

Re: Roll call for PacNW Soul EV owners!

I’m in Graham, WA; S of Puyallup with 52k miles on our 2016, black w red roof. No other Soul EV owners active in the Seattle EV Association, so sign on, folks! I commuted 75 miles one-way in it for a year before upgrading a 2011 LEAF to 40 kWh as a demonstration project for http://www.EV-works.com, ...

Boosting the heat pump

JejuSoul, thanks for your technical references. I'm curious about boosting cabin heat with a hot water reservoir. In my older EVs, I've used a 5 gallon steel tank (outboard motor fuel tank) full of hot water for supplemental cabin heating. According to my calculations, that 43 lbs delivered more sen...

Re: How to estimate SoH for Buying Used

I used Soul Spy when test driving my 2016 with 24k miles in October. It reported 99.7% SOH. The car was sedately driven for 36 months by my friend, literally the preacher's wife. Today after 6000 more miles of hard driving, it reports 100.7%! As luck would have it, tonight's commute was above my nor...
