Re: No options for a Bike Rack?

My understanding is that KIA do not want the EV consumption figures to be discredited by towing or carrying things on the roof, so the dealers will say no. However, I believe the tow hitch attachment points are there on the EVs, so the hitch could be fitted. e.g. link Also, the roof carriage access...

Re: SK Innovation doubles EV battery production

[...]Most exports go to Europe, only 10% to Canada, and only 1 car to the US. Norway is 40% of the total. Still the biggest market for this car. - "Only" 10% go to Canada? Europe has 743 million people, Canada has 37 million. So Europe has 20x the population but only sells 9x as many unit...

Differences between the 2020 and 2021 Kia Soul EV?

I was curious about the differences (if any) between the 2020 and 2021 Kia Soul EVs, and the only thing I found online was this video that goes through it in a lot of detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsC-RYncSlM That doesn't mean they didn't miss something, however. Does anyone know of any ot...

Should you use Winter Mode in mild winters?

I live in south-coastal British Columbia. In the depths of winter the average temperatures here are 2°C overnight low and 7°C daytime high. Of course those are averages, we do get the occasional cold snap, and the occasional warmer day. I've read that Winter Mode's battery warming can kick in as low...

Re: In Summer it's best to park in the shade.

- No. I live in Jeju, South Korea. It is hot here in summer, but nothing like the daytime Phoenix temperatures. For your battery to last you need to keep the battery temperatures below 45C. In summer the black asphalt road surface can easily heat up above this on a hot summer day. For this reason I...

Re: Watchdog App... maybe.

Hello. I'm the developer of a Android monitoring App (OBD2) called PHEV Watchdog which has been available for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and more recently for the Kia and Hyundai PHEV models. I've been asked to add support for the EV vehicles but I do think it should be another App (too much PHE...

You're right of course! I specifically have the KW902 ODB2 adaptor. :) Looking forward to messing around with it, even if you can't do nearly as much with it as you can with a BMW. ;)

Re: End of the line for combustion engines?

Not just Honda, Toyota and Hyundai are following along, and have hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in production as well. For heavy commercial vehicles, hydrogen is definitely a plausible replacement fuel for diesel. This brings along a host of other problems like infrastructure, service/repairs, etc. bu...

Re: End of the line for combustion engines?

The article points out that HFC vehicles can be FC/hybrids (like the Clarity) , i.e. they have motive-power batteries and provide regenerative braking and instantaneous power increase, with which a pure FC vehicle has difficulty. It doesn't say this, but I imagine, when the vehicle slows or stops, ...

Re: End of the line for combustion engines?

Just to add - the US Army has experimented with safe compact hydrogen storage. The hydrogen is adsorbed into a sponge-like insert in the pressure vessel, allowing vastly increased storage for little extra weight, and, even if punctured by gunfire, the vessels did not explode, just slowly released t...
