Re: What's better, immediately putting a low battery on charge or leaving it 90 minutes before putting it on charge?

Well that video was filled with a bunch of pretty unspecific claims and advise. :) If you really want to be careful with your battery you should just get the SoulSpy app and a suitable Bluetooth ODBC adapter for it and you can monitor the temps in your battery pack and use real data to determine if...

Re: Good news for buying used in non-compliant state

Well, in fact they are not widely available in Canada either. They are sold in Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia only as far as I am aware. Same reasons, these provinces enacted initiatives to compel the sale of EVs in their jurisdictions. But in the U.S. they're only sold in ZEV states, ones t...

Re: Rumor - 2nd Gen Soul EV not coming to US

I'm pretty sure that KIA only sells these in markets that have a government rebate program in place for new EVs, or that require a percentage of sales to be EV. Not sure if Washington State has one of those, BC, QC, and until recently ON provinces do. Also a federal one now in all of Canada. Isn't ...

Re: Rumor - 2nd Gen Soul EV not coming to US

Perhaps because customers in Arizona or California could go to Michigan or Washington state to buy them? You're right that an owner could do that, but would they be likely to? I'm sure it happens, but A) I doubt a very high percentage of people are into the idea of travelling long distances to buy ...

Re: Good news for buying used in non-compliant state

Help out an ignorant Brit - what is a non-compliant state in this context? I'm Canadian so I'm not an expert, but I'll give 'er a go. Whereas most countries have national standards, U.S. standards can vary state-by-state. So-called "CARB States" are California and about a dozen other stat...

Re: Which Electric car battery is the most durable ?

[...]Of the car manufacturers Tesla, GM and BMW have built the best TMS systems to keep their battery packs at optimal temperatures. Renault, Nissan and Kia are the worst. [...] With regards to Kia, that's what I'd expect for the air cooled 2019 and earlier Soul EV. Is that still true for 2020 and ...

Re: End of the line for combustion engines?

In recent years, car makers have invested countless millions in their engine programs due to the horsepower wars and ever-increasing emissions/efficiency targets. But now it looks like we may have reached the end of the line for combustion engines. Autoline (an auto industry news source in the US) ...

Re: Rumor - 2nd Gen Soul EV not coming to US

...Considering the hammering their profits will have taken from the battery replacements in the hotter parts of the US, avoiding that market seems to be a sound business decision. Agreed. Although it is more than just avoiding the financial loss of a battery replacement under warranty. By mostly av...

Re: What's better, immediately putting a low battery on charge or leaving it 90 minutes before putting it on charge?

It's frequently stated that the battery coming to rest first can be beneficial before re-charging it, with times in the 30-90 minute range frequently cited. Interesting, this is not something I'd heard of. Could you post a reference for followup? If you think about the normal operation of the car i...

Re: What's better, immediately putting a low battery on charge or leaving it 90 minutes before putting it on charge?

I wonder how valid the "letting it cool down" is in temperate climates? To my mind, the battery will charge best if it is at "normal operating temperature", and if the ambient temperature is (say) less than 30C, it should be fine to charge straight away. I have not tested this, ...
