I'm looking at buying a used 2016. Unfortunately I would be the third owner, so the warranty would not transfer. I'm stuck waiting for State Farm to officially declare my Leaf totalled. In the meanwhile, the used car dealer says the Soul I looked at is in for a recall, and "they're waiting for a new battery". Could this be so? Google hasn't turned up any reports of Kia replacing batteries in a recall.

No recall that I'm aware of. Possibly they mean that the battery has failed the warranty and they are replacing it already?

You are confused about the warranty on an Electric Vehicle.
It is the EV System Warranty that is important for us.
This is 10 years / 100,000 miles regardless of owner.
