Hi,
I have a 2020 Soul EV and have been getting an intermittent warning to refill my coolant. The coolant level has not changed since I bought my car new. The service department at my dealership - Applewood Langley say it is a known problem but they haven't come up with a fix yet and to call back in a month. Monitoring my coolant level in the meantime. Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

My KIA Soul EV 2020 started doing the same thing in Aug 2022. It has been a constant fight with the dealership to get this resolved, but they keep reassuring us that the car is driveable and this isn't a safety issue.

In Nov 2022 the dealership said they heard back from KIA and this is a known issue and that there's a software fix for it. In order to apply the software fix however, the dealership will need a 'specialist tool' from Kia......it's now Feb 2023 and the dealership is still reporting that the tool is in transit to them and will hopefully arrive soon.

I'll update this discussion if/when we ever do get this software fix applied to our car.

I have the same issue - sporadic "Refill Coolant" warnings - on my 2020 Soul EV.

I usually see them during really hot Summer days. More recently, though, I got one in the dead of Winter. In 3.5 years, it's cropped up maybe a half dozen times.

The error goes away by itself quickly enough.

A visual inspection of the Coolant reservoir shows it is within normal fill ranges - so this is a sensor bug, it seems.

The Dealer would be right then. The warning is annoying, but can be safely ignored.

Warning - the coolant used is very specific, so I would make double sure of having the right stuff before topping up.

WARNING

My 2020 Soul had this issue. Started almost a year ago. Same thing collant levels seemed okay. Told kia were working on fix of this know issue and software update would fix it. After months of same answer i noticed my charge speeds start to limit. to about 35kw max and i would no longer hear the fans kick in. Took it back insisted they do something about it. They flushed system and just sludge came out. This did not fix the issue, damage was done. car with them 5 weeks now and issue has not been resolved and no resolution in sight as of yet.

Basically turn off your car, make sure you reported this to kia so they cant say its not under warranty. Get it to garage and insist on a full flush and see if you have same problem

Hi all,

There is a recall for the Refill Coolant message - I brought mine in two weeks ago. All they did was a coolant flush apparently. It takes them about 3-4 hours. On the invoice it says it could take up to 8 hours if debris is found during the flush… 🤔

My wife has the same vehicle and was just told that her appointment was cancelled due to KIA investigating if a flush is all that needs to be done OR if it’s a bigger issue as first assumed. 🤷‍♂️

It would be interesting to hear from other EV Soul 2020/21 drivers…

I have a 2020 and last month I got the refill coolant message. checked and found nothing. It went away quickly and then today it did it again after charging at about 7kw for an hour. Reading the string it looks like all I can do is report to the dealer and wait until they learn how to fix it. thanks, Eric in Victoria

2020 Kia soul EV Limited

I also have the coolant warning. At first it was 1-2 times a week but it happens now every time I drive. Coolant level in the reservoir looks ok. Dealer says that the coolant originally supplied is not performing well and KIA is working on supplying a new fluid and will not service car until new fluid is available.

Hopefully no permanent damage occurs. I see other comments about crystallization and sludge. Not sure what I can do now, we are a single car family and I can’t just park the car until a fix is ready.

Just got the coolant warning for the first time. 2021 Soul EV Limited, ~25,000 kms. Service says that they'd flush the coolant, but it's back-ordered across Canada at the moment. :?

Just have to wait and hope for the best for now, I guess.

Hi, we are having the same intermittent coolant refill warning issue that others have posted (2020 EV soul). We also recently had a brief power down error that based on the manual may also be related to coolant. Coolant level in reservoir has been checked and normal. No leaks identified. Our VIN does not come up with the coolant flush recall that others have apparently had that seems to have resolved their issues as per dealer. Has anyone who had this error had their coolant flushed by dealer and resolved it? If so, was it under the recall or not? Apparently the recall requires flushing the system 4 times to remove crystallization (?) within the coolant fluid. Otherwise, the car drives like normal (for now). Thanks for any input.

I am in Canada got s 2020 39kwh Soul. Refill Coolant warning came up about 30000km. Kia dealership told me it's a known issue and told me to wait for a fix. May 2023 dealership called me and said they have the fix. Seems like it was a coolant flash + sensor check. After getting this done the warning stopped for about a month. July the warning light is back 😞. Dealership told me to take the car in. I'll update on what they say.

Hi All,

I have the same issue. I have been bounced between Kia Canada and the dealership where I purchased the car for many, many, many months. I had an appointment in September for a flush, just cancelled. My next appointment is scheduled for October.

The dealership purports to needing coolant to effect the repair which is not available. Kia Canada says this is an issue that I need to take up with the dealership as they don't have access to inventory information. Many months have gone by without resolution of this issue. What is completely surprising is that this is not a recall. I have been assured by the dealership that this issue has no negative effect on the battery. I am not in a position to confirm this is the case.

For those of you who have had their cars battery flushed , has it resolved the issue?
Anyone know what other options are available to get this stalemate resolved?
Is there a Canadian Government Agency to contact?

Anyone know of any update on this issue. Just happened for first time on my 2021.

I have a Gen 1 (2018) but this sounds like a bad sensor or loose connection to me. I had a similar warning one time on my 2016 a few months after I bought it (used). It was about an eighth of an inch low on coolant, so I filled it to the top (of the "max" line) and pushed all the connectors in to make sure they were tight and never saw this message again.
