My dealer experience has been pretty awful, but I guess you could say it's my own fault or rather the result of my naivety. When I bought my electric KIA from a used car dealer on Vancouver Island and as we closed the deal he mentioned, in passing, that my car was originally from the US, and was...
If you go to another thread on this site, page 6 : New software update installation (video))
There is a post with a link to a firmware update that will get you Apple Carplay:
I did download this and it did work on my 2016 Kia Soul ev. No problems.
Now I believe this is all replaced now...
The only time you may run into a problem running all-season tires is if you venture out on a road that requires "winter" tires. We have several in British Columbia. The fines are fairly serious.
ernie.
This update will only install on a car with either the US software or the Canadian software. You can only install the country specific upgrade version.
I know because my car was originally registered in the US, but since I'm in Canada I tried using the Canadian update first, thinking I needed...
The Kia link?
I just clicked it and it worked.
The Amazon link just goes to amazon if you need to buy an SD card while social distancing...
Thanks,

Winter Tires for my Soul EV
I live on the Canadian West Coast. So, mostly cold rain, some icy stuff and slush, more slush and very occasionally snow.
After much research my first choice was the new Michelin X-Ice Snow but now I am considering a bit of a much lesser known, at least here in...
Finally got this update done. Noticed when downloading to computer the KIA app does want the SD card attached to the computer so it can recognize it as the final destination. It actually does the download to your computer but then it immediately goes to a copy step to transfer the file from...
Thanks for the update.
I had downloaded the app yesterday (the Mac version) , and it opened fine etc., but I am going to wait until I get the 32bg SD card before I go any further.
I will probably download the file to my computer first, and then manually transfer them to the SD card to install...
Glad your update worked.
The new update looks like a Nav update only. Not sure if it requires the UVO subscription...though it would need some sort of connection so that was my assumption.
The "new" Kia update site is https://update.kia.com
That's where i've looked at it today. I order a new...
If there is an SD card in your vehicle now, (there was not in the used Kia I bought) then you can simply copy the existing software to your computer. You would need an SD card reader but they can be had really cheap. (under 10 bucks) Of course the other option if there is a card in there is to...
My guess would be the software does not use a CID. Cracking the code would require gaining access to the files stored on the cars hard-drive, which seems unlikely. It's just a software update so as long as the update folder is on an SD drive in the Car's drive it is no different than upgrading...
Well, my Amazon order finally showed up yesterday. Today I wrote the Canadian version to the SD card and tried it. No joy. Incompatible firmware error. Though this might happen as the car was originally a US registered vehicle. So I re-wrote the SD card using the US update, plugged it in and...
Well that will suck. But without a card I'm kinda in a spot where I might as well try. I ordered a card and a USB card reader last night from Amazon, good price and I can stay home, so when it arrives it a couple days I'll give it a go.
Thanks for the heads up.
