What should I know before a battery replacement?

Just checking back in to this thread following my battery replacement. Some final notes: We did have to wait a long time - about 8 weeks in-total from the point where the dealership confirmed the low SOH. A few days were waiting for 'Kia Engineering' to approve the replacement, then another...

What should I know before a battery replacement?

Yesterday, my Soul EV calibrated for the second time. This time I ended up with SOH = 58%. So the trend is consistent. If my personal experience is any indication, Kia really should notify its dealers NOT to park their EVs in direct sun for extended periods. In my case, I purchased 2 models...

What should I know before a battery replacement?

I see. I was under the impression there were two different parts. Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like you're probably getting >100mi at full charge then. Great! I can't speak for the original owner's commute, but from here on my driving conditions will be pretty ideal for an EV...

What should I know before a battery replacement?

Thanks for your recent experience, cixelsyd. Was I mistaken in understanding that 27 kWh = 100% SOH, and 110% comes from Kia unofficially installing overcapacity 30 kWh batteries in new models? Regarding the SOH test, I've heard experiences similar to yours from several members. Which is odd...

What should I know before a battery replacement?

I recently purchased a 2015 Soul EV in great cosmetic shape, but with less-than-ideal range. Before completing the purchase, I learned a fair bit from folks here in the forum and checked the SOH with SoulSpy. At that time, the SOH read 76% with a fully-charged range of ~65mi. Not great, but...

    Soul Spy?

I'm still pretty new around here, but the highest I've seen a battery go (temperature) was ~30-32C. That was after about an hour of driving, but in moderate weather (~80F).

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

I did go ahead and return the first car today. I didn't get a chance to check the counters on the backup yet, but the local Kia dealer was able to look it up by its VIN and verify that its last BMS update was about 18 months ago. That was enough confirmation for me until I can reach it.

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

That is an excellent insight, and one I was not aware of. Unfortunately this puts me in a bit of a bind, since I used SoulSpy on the Backup car yesterday, but did not think to look at those figures. I was suspicious about how a 4 year-old car with ~20k miles was able to maintain it's better so...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Another update, in case this experience helps anyone who comes across it down the road... Yesterday I drove the car as conservatively as possible - no AC, ECO on, and trying as hard as possible to stretch out the battery with careful acceleration and braking. I brought the car below 10%...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Thank you for the suggestion. I did call the dealer yesterday, effectively telling them I would return the vehicle unless I could prove to my own satisfaction that the range reading was wrong. The agent was un-phased and didn't try to 'save the deal' over the phone. But I expect they...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Once again, your expertise is very appreciated, JejuSoul. I received the OBD-II BT device today and was able to connect it to the SoulEV app referenced here in the community. The 89% value I previously received from the dealer was taken immediately after I picked up the car, and as you said...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Thank you for your response, JejuSoul. What you say makes sense. Unfortunately for me, my 'return period' is also range-limited (I can drive a maximum of 150 miles further before I cross the threshold) or else I would spend the day trying to drive-charge the car to help the SOH recalibrate...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

The more I read, I notice a trend that what I'm calling the 'indicated range' of 74mi at 100% is what you are all referring to as the GOM (Guess-o-meter). Is that right? So if I assume for a moment that the GOM reading of 74mi is unreliable (entirely possible since the car has been sitting on...

Should I return my 2016 Soul EV?

Greetings fellow Soul EV owners. I have a somewhat urgent concern regarding a 2016 Kia Sould EV that I bought yesterday. I'm concerned that the indicated range is far below what I expected to find, and I have a small window to return the vehicle (2 days from now). Prior to making this...
