27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Our lease was 15,000 miles per year pre-paid miles that are 5c cheaper than after the fact. I plan to stay within the 45,000-mile limit. With the arrival of Bolt we should be able (among 4 adults sharing 4 cars) to keep it there. This is why I'm considering buying Bolt so we can go unlimited...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Update: cold charge at around 40F brings 100% charge down to 80 miles range, as I expected. Current mileage is 36,000 plus. Can't wait another week to get my hands on that Bolt. Put down $500 deposit and considering buiyng it outright (with 2.9% GM loan). The reason being: the $750 fed tax...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Currently at 33,000+ miles. Usual 100% charge did not go above 89-90 miles during the summer. I expect it to drop as winter is approaching, the upper 30s, mid 40s at night. Will post how low we drop. I feel sorry for the Minnesota Soul owners' ranges. Oh, yeah. Getting Chevy Bolt in about 10...

On-board Charger Kaput at 31,000 miles

I wonder if the symptoms (10 ticks) I described above are the same for everyone with OBC failure. Update: all fixed, so far everything looks peachy.

On-board Charger Kaput at 31,000 miles

I plugged in, relays clicked and then there were 10 tick sounds 1-3 seconds apart. Three lights blinked once in synchro, and charging died. At first I thought it must have something to do with that recent firmware bulletin. I decided NOT to tinker with the car and took it early morning to Kia...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Jeez! 90 mph. Slow down! You'll get there 5 min earlier, that's all. Not worth it.

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

We drive 65 mph. I know that the computer remembers previous drive. This is a freeway country, no 45-55 mph, but nothing outrageous either. Just normal freeway miles. Still, I lost 12% of my original range. As expected, really. I already envision my future Bolt starting at 212, down to 180...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Currently I'm at max 89 miles at 100% charge in mild weather overnight (55F). Mileage stands at 31,000+ I can only dream of anything over 100 miles on GOM. I've been in high to mid 90s last summer (2015). Now I'm definitely below 90 at all times. What's my recourse? Any ideas, anyone?

Is 2017 the Year of the Electric Car Price Drop?

Lease is the only way to go with these early tech models, considering some day "soon" we will be driving 400-600 mile EVs. That will be time to start considering buying again and then upgrading batteries every 4-6 years. At least that's my plan. I got burned buying '11 Leaf. Get this: I almost...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

It's called drafting. Not doable in Ca. We move over if someone is drafting behind us, because we don't know what the drafting driver is after, drafting or "get outta my way, you slowpoke." So we can't draft for too long. Secondly, that's how you get your front hood pockmarked with all the...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

I do not recommend the car. We've had it for almost 3 years now. It's okay for local driving, but you're taking your life in your hands going 65 on the freeway in this thing. And if it's windy and rainy, it's even more of a challenge. Definitely 2 hands on the wheel at all times driving. The...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Not gonna happen. Not on my crazy Ca freeway commute across 3 of them. Going 62 mph already means I'm pushing my luck. I'm constantly watching what's coming from behind, where it's going, and if it's going to take my rear corner with it. The varied m/kwh depends on heat of course and also on my...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

I do like the polemic. I wish I had the answers as to what is going on, if anything, with the battery and its capability, SOC, etc. I have no other scientific inclination than to trust GOM, because it has been a pretty good predictor of miles remaining so far. Certainly 100% improvement from 11'...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

It still doesn't change the fact that 86 mile starting range is... a/ disappointing as far as the battery chemistry - reminds me of my 11' Leaf, and... b/ is too close for comfort as regards to my 84-mile commute. I am waiting for warmer day/night temps to confirm this loss. It should be...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

In 2 years. I've been on it with my employer since 2011. Hoping to be happily retired before it happens. And I am not holding my breath. I suggested 5 stations, 10 parking spots. They say 2 stations/2 spots - in 2 years. Too risky to rely on 2 chargers among 200 employees. Both stations will...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

One thing I have decided long time ago (11' Leaf) is NOT to make big science of the SOC and spend time studying the ins and outs of the battery performance. I follow the Soul's GOM, it is so much superior to the Leaf's that it gives me quite realistic account of miles remaining. I know the...

Nope. No such luck. I did my due diligence. Plus...I leave work at 10 pm. Want to shoot straight home and watch the news: The Donald, the shootings and the homeless...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

I am not taking the chance to find out at this time. Not until I'm starting with at least 91, because I've done THAT, and I know I can make it back with at least 5 GOM miles remaining... Btw, my workplace miles remaining was 51 to 56. At 51 I'd have to slow down going home. See what happens...
