Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

While this is no doubt frustrating there is a small chance you’ll get the new 2018 pack with new chemistry and greater capacity. Potential silver lining?

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

It’s just reading a value off the Kia scan tool, there’s no “servicing” really involved. I would press the issue or consult another service dept. In any event it sounds like you’re likely to get a new battery under warranty.

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

Why not have the dealer in Arizona run the SOH check before shipping? Their diagnostic equipment should be able to read the values.

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

The warranty packet is pretty clear that any state of health below 70% within ten years or 100,000 miles is eligible for a warranty repair regardless of whether or not it is for the original owner. I’d take it to the dealer, tell them the range has dropped dramatically, and ask them to check...

    Range from 100% Charge Dropping

Is this the predicted range (guess-o-meter) on a full charge or the actual amount of miles you're able to physically drive on a charge? My GOM has generally drifted downward over time but I am still able to drive roughly 1 mile per 1% state of charge at ~4mi/kWh just like when I picked up the...

    Full Charge Yields 16kWh added

A 0%-100% charge on a nearly new battery should be ~27 kWh + charging losses. Original battery capacity is ~30.5 kWh with 27 usable. I did a range test when my car was brand new (you can find it on YouTube) and at 3.9 mi/kWh the car could do about 105 miles on a charge. Therefore on a fresh...

    EV Range

If you did this drive at 4.8 mi/kWh it's my opinion that your main traction battery is severely degraded. If it were my car I would have it in for a State of Health (SOH) check at a local Kia dealer ASAP. If SOH is below 70% you are likely to qualify for a new traction battery under the 10...

    EV Range

How many miles did you drive and what was the mi/kWh reading on the dash for the trip? To determine whether it's a degradation or instrumentation issue you should: 1) Charge to 100% 2) Reset trip odometer 3) Reset mi/kWh meter Then drive a given distance and make note of the distance...

    EV Range

Fully charge the car to allow the cells to balance then make an appointment at a Kia dealer to have the battery's SOH (State of Health) read by their diagnostic tool. If the SOH is below 70% the battery will be eligible for a warranty replacement under the 10/100 battery warranty.

2018 Kia Soul EV EPA Range

The 2018 Soul EV's range has been certified by the EPA at 111 miles. Combined MPGe has risen from 105 to 108 MPGe and consumption drops from 32 kWh/100 miles to 31 kWh/100 miles. A large part of the range increase was the deletion of the 80% charge option; if this option is present then 80...

120V (US) Kia EVSE Part Number

I need to replace my factory Kia EVSE trickle charger before I turn my lease in and I don't have the part number. Would one of you be so kind to reply with the part number from the back of the device? I'd appreciate it.

Specifying Charge Level in UVO or in Vehicle?

If you have an iPhone you can configure the UVO app to use TouchID for the password so that you just use your fingerprint to authenticate. Much faster than typing in a password in my experience.

    Charging Fault error.

The dealer fixed my car in three business days, so not too bad compared to what some have been through. Oddly, the topmost portion that shows v10.1R remains in my car; it's the "OBC MAIN CASE BOTTOM" which is new. It shows a mfg date of 20170125. Car charges fine again but I haven't checked...

    Charging Fault error.

Car is at the dealer now. The service writer said something to the effect of "oh another one" which is both comforting and concerning. Here's an image of my original OBC. I'll update when they install the new one.

    Charging Fault error.

My turn. OBC died Thursday night with 37,500 miles on the odometer. I'll book an appointment with the dealer for next week.

    2018 Soul EV

The Niro uses the same platform (and floorpan) as the Ioniq, which has a 31 kWh battery pack (28 kWh usable). The current Niro/Ioniq package can already hold more battery capacity than the 2015-2017 Soul EV. Even with the existing Ioniq's pack the Niro EV would have more range than the Soul...
