OVMS for the Kia Soul EV (to remotely access it without UVO)

The main developers are planning a new release this weekend. I've been running on the new Kia Soul-part for a few days now and my 12V voltage-logger shows almost no drain! I am very pleased :D Also I've tried to minimize the need for waking up the car (and the sometimes the radio) momentarily...

OVMS for the Kia Soul EV (to remotely access it without UVO)

Hi guys! Happy new year! I've just sent my latest Kia Soul EV-code to the master repository, so hopefully a new and improved version will be available to all soon! The main issue that has been fixed, hopefully, is the 12V battery drain that some have reported. A side effect of that is that the...

    Remote HVAC operation

Unfortunately, no :( It has been a few months now, so my memory is not clear, but IIRC the message containing the "plugged in"-status is sent so many times per seconds that it is impossible to make the car believe it is plugged in.

Yes, but there is a bug I haven't had time to fix that makes that function somewhat unstable.

Well, it also works on the Fiat 500e, so I guess it isn't strictly Kia-specific either ;) On a side note, I've ordered the new Kia Niro Electric and will hopefully get it at the end of this year. I hope that cable will work on the Niro too. I'm curious to see how much of the code that can be...

Fasttech will get Kia-specific OBD II-cables in a couple of week.

I'm pretty sure Mark, the main buy behind OVMS, is ordering some OBD-II cables now for the Kia Soul which will be available from FastTech. For my OVMS, I simply bought a OBD-II pigtail and a DB-9 connector and made my own.

Great news, Javi! Please upgrade to firmware 3.1.005. It is much more useful than 3.1.004! Can you verify that lock and unlock door works on your car? And can you test to see if you can open the charge port when holding the "hold-button" on the key fob?

OVMS for the Kia Soul EV (to remotely access it without UVO)

I finally got mine yesterday :D Had some problems with the SD-card-reader and it took a while before I got the 3G-connection to work. I think both problems where due to bad connections and flimsy holders. Everything else was fairly ok to setup when following the user guide. I got connected...

OVMS for the Kia Soul EV (to remotely access it without UVO)

Javi, I tried to send you a reply to your mailaddress, but I got the email in return for some reason. I haven't received my V3.1-module yet, so I'm afraid I can't help you much at the moment, but I can say that the WiFi-antenna is built in. The external antennas are for GPS and GSM/3G only...

OVMS for the Kia Soul EV (to remotely access it without UVO)

Not really. The hardware har proven to be a challenge, so there has been some setbacks. But, there will be a limited number of OVMS V3-boxes for sale in Mars, I hope. These are meant for the early adopters who aren't afraid of bugs and manual firmware updates. When it comes to the Kia Soul...

    Remote HVAC operation

I don't think any of those facts necessarily are contradicting my theories :) That the preheat fails when a scheduled charge fails, might happen if the BMS tells the rest of the system that there's no charger plugged in. It depends how the charge scheduler works, of course, but if this is...

Just a small update on OVMS V3. I can now lock and unlock doors from a car that is properly off. For real this time! I can open the trunk, and I have implemented a feature where you can use the third "trunk" button on the key fob to open the charge port. (Do anyone know what that button does...

    Remote HVAC operation

The telematics unit (UVO) seems to be connected to the rest of the car via the two c-can and m-can buses, so I believe it must be possible to do remote preheating using only those two. http://www.kisouman.com/telemetics_unit_tmu_component-2060.html How it works though, is the big question...

I can confirm that the M-bus is 100kbit. I've run quite a few traces and have updated Tyrell's google spreadsheet with my latest findings: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YYlZ-IcTQlz-LzaYkHO-7a4SFM8QYs2BGNXiSU5_EwI/edit?pli=1#gid=0

    Remote HVAC operation

This is definitively a question that needs its own thread! I've been looking into this as a part of the upcoming OVMS V3, but since I live in Norway and haven't got access to a car with UVO, so I don't know how they have solved this is the US. However, if we look at the UVO-telemetics unit...

I’m pretty sure that the m-bus is 100kbit/s. There’s no reason it should be twice the speed of the c-can. AIKI wrote about the m-can early in the SoulSpy thread.

Any dongle should do. Or you could make a cable so you can access both with one cable. Not at the same time, of course :)

Hi Usikker, Maybe you could have a look at the M-can? The M-can is on pin 1(High) and 9(low), while the C-can is on pin 6(high) and 14(low). I would really like to know what we can find on that bus. Like which messages are sent when the timer turns on the heater, what is the inside...
