January Software Update a Good Thing?

I got this email from Kia this morning: "In case you've updated your vehicle's software and noticed limited UVO capabilities, an update that improves such capabilities has been made available on myuvo.com. This update is optional and does not affect your vehicle's support for Apple CarPlay™...

    Painting the rims

Wow Ever! What a huge improvement this is. Thanks for bringing this to life in a terrific video that both proves the point and also makes it clear how simple a change this is to do! As goofy as the white wheels look, I had -- thinking the white could not be easily changed -- persuaded...

    Creaking sound in the front

Thank to NOTFRED. All good tips which I will explore.

    Creaking sound in the front

I often get a noise that sounds more like snapping or cracking than creaking. It comes at random times, but it seems to me to be most associated with sudden movements of the body, as when entering or exiting a sharp corner or doing rapid acceleration or deceleration. I hear it as coming...

    Cargo area cover?

Sounds like you bought the base level Soul EV. Great car, and a great value -- but unfortunately you only get the cargo cover if you buy the higher trim level, the EV+. See this site for which things come standard or as options with each of the two different trim levels...

    Jeju EV Rally

Apologies for my newbie mistakes. :) And I am a newbie: to this forum, to the Kia Soul EV, and to the Kia brand. If you had asked me even two months ago if I would ever consider owning a Kia I would have laughed at the very idea. Now, one month in to my ownership of a 2016 Kia Soul EV, I...

    Jeju EV Rally

Thanks for sharing this report. Really interesting. The i3's slight efficiency advantage over the Soul EV pretty much matches what I have experienced. Over 2 years of driving my former i3 I averaged 4.2 miles per kWh, and so far after one month in my new Soul EV I am averaging 3.9 miles per...

    Level 1 Charger Cord Stolen

Excellent. You will not regret it moving up to a Level 2. My one additional suggestion now is to make sure you check out what options your local utility offers in the way of rate plans for EV users. Up here in the SF Bay Area, PG&E has an option for EV owners that let's you move on to a...

Level 2 Charger on 20a Circuit

I'm not an electrician, but this sounds sketchy to me. Yes this (now nearly antique) model Leviton 16 amp EVSE should work on your 20 amp circuit (though I can't vouch for whether or not the NEMO plug you are thinking about is correct), but it seems risky to assume that no one will ever...

    Remove rear bumper reflectors

IMHO the rear safety reflectors are a safety feature, not a design feature. Not sure why you would choose to remove them, but to each his own. :)

    Level 1 Charger Cord Stolen

Very sorry this happened to you! I guess you must have the misfortune to live in one of the very, very few places in the country where there may be enough of a concentration of EV's that a thief might actually be able to "fence" a hot level one EVSE! As for your question of what to do to...

    All New Uvo Eco app!

Quazmann- I had the exact same problem when I downloaded the new app (for my iPhone 6) last week. Ended up calling the UVO customer service number. They acknowledged there is a problem and said they have escalated it to the UVO tech team but that in the meantime they would need to deactivate...

    Automatic Parking

Hi Jeju Soul- BMW is quite clever in how they market their "packages." All that is standard on the i3 is the rear bumper parking sensors. In order to get the rear view camera and the front sensors, they make you buy the package that includes the stupid self parking feature. :)

    Automatic Parking

I had the automatic parking feature on my i3. I never once used it in the two years and 21000 miles I had the car. If you can't park a car the size of the i3 or the Soul EV by yourself, you probably should not be driving! :) Plus, many i3 owners who did use the self parking feature...

    White parts on wheels

And a related question - does anyone know how susceptible the white is to "curbing" or other scratches? Do we need to be extra, extra careful as we park with these wheels?

    Seattle Lease EV+

Ditto that - welcome to the club!

Can I safely charge to 100% with my L2 home charger?

In any event, there really is no need to worry about the battery life as Kia warrantees it for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

    Kia Exploding Sunroof Lawsuit

I'm with Raylon on this. I just (three weeks ago) leased a Kia Soul EV+ with the "Sun 'n' Fun" package and would really like to know if I need to start wearing a helmet or something to protect against the possibility of the gigantic (and gorgeous) sun roof exploding on me!

    Aftermarket Level 3 charger installed?

Depending on your driving habits, the lack of a Level 3 charging port might actually be irrelevant so long as you have access to a level 2 charger on a daily basis either at home or at work. Even if you have a lead foot driving style, in the Soul EV you should be able to average at least 90...
