I plugged in, relays clicked and then there were 10 tick sounds 1-3 seconds apart. Three lights blinked once in synchro, and charging died. At first I thought it must have something to do with that recent firmware bulletin.

I decided NOT to tinker with the car and took it early morning to Kia t.g. only 2 miles away. Got a Hertz loaner and a diagnosis: on-board charger will be replaced.

I can only surmise if the bulletin upgrade has something to do with destroying perfectly fine OBC. We'll see once the replacement gets its workout, if it happens again...

Now the wait. Kia said 3 days. Will update as the fix unfolds.

Replacing the OBC is becoming rather common.
There is a thread here - Charging Fault error.

The most frequent error message users get is this one

It has nothing to do with any recent firmware update or distance you have driven.

Hope you get the fixed car back soon. Please do update us on what they do.

I wonder if the symptoms (10 ticks) I described above are the same for everyone with OBC failure.

Update: all fixed, so far everything looks peachy.
