Just wanted to get back and say that I think notfred was right — simply a failing 12V battery. The first time I had it load tested, it was still in the car and within a minute or so after turning it off. I suspect that it may have been still connected to the big battery in some fashion...

Thanks to all. I just found an article on the Clipper Creek site that says that level 2 charging is almost 5% more efficient, perhaps for the reasons that notfred mentions. That is probably why Kia recommends it.

Interesting, and disappointing. Right now I mostly use it to turn off charging before 90%, but in the winter it would be nice to heat up the cabin while plugged in.
