Kia Sportage PHEV in the making?

I don't like the looks of the Niro, but I would love a new Kia Sportage PHEV with 50 miles all electric range and then a 1.6l gas range extender. Any chance of seeing it anytime soon?

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

Any chance of plugging-in at work? Even 120V@12Amps would help.

    OBD-II adapter killed by car?

There were some occurrences where OBD2 dongle killed/bricked a Chevrolet Volt, so be careful.

    Battery Ageing Model

Aha, I understand now! It's like in Ampera, where the SOH windows ends at 85.9% SOC (and starts at 22%). The 85.9% SOC -> 100% SOC (14% battery degradation window buffer) is the SOH buffer for battery degradation.

    Battery Ageing Model

What is the difference between deterioration numbers and battery SOH? I thought, that the 100% - deterioration number in % = SOH in %.

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

The difference is, that when new, by default the Volt1/Ampera charges/discharges in a 22% - 85.9% SOC window, never to 100%. It compensates the battery degradation by charging to the higher SOC. In my case, with almost 4 years old car and 103.000km driven, the SOC window has increased to...

27,000 miles 86-mile range; my Soul EV commute is over

That's pretty bad. My 2012 Ampera (European Chevy Volt), with 103.000km behind her, still has the same EV range as new. I guess, having liquid cooled/heated battery is paying off. The car never allows it to heat above 30°C. If it reaches 31°C, it starts the AC, which cools the battery coolant...

Anyone bought a Kia Soul EV?

You don't need a car with a greater range, if you don't use that extra range. For example, my workday need is usually 30km. I have an Opel Ampera (European Chevy Volt) with a 16kWh battery (10.4kWh usable), which does that range on battery even in the coldest days with 30%-40% range left and...

    Heating while charging.

Wow, really? On a cold winter day, when I get off work and it's -°C outside, I like to enter a warmed up Ampera. It also defrosts and deices all my windows if there was snow falling through the day.

    Heating while charging.

Can you preheat/precool Soul EV with a timer if the car is not connected to the grid - let's say it's parked outside?

Setting up Torque to show BMS data

Good job! This is how I have my Torque Pro set up for recording videos with my Ampera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3so4gcYPrI This is how I had it set up when driving pre-production Toyota Prius Plug-In in early 2012, when I'm driving and I have the phone attached to the windscreen...

    Battery Ageing Model

Why do you think you Soul's battery is deteriorating more slowly than of the other ten? Is it the ambient temperature? Depth of discharge? My Ampera's battery is submerged in Dexcool and is liquid cooled with the car's AC unit and liquid heated with a 1.8kW heater. If it reaches 30°C, it cools...

Why is Soul EV averaged (blue X) so much lower than the My Soul EV (pink X) values? Shouldn't it be somewhere in between?

Setting up Torque to show BMS data

Thank you! This is of great value! I own Opel Ampera (European version of Chevy Volt) and I have my custom PIDs entered in my Torque App since day one and it's great! Every time I start the car I run the Torque app on my phone along with the Waze app. Those two apps are essential for me, when...

Price on a new original charger from KIA

Since you're writing about the Schuko plug, I assume, you're from Europe, where we have 230V@16A Schuko plugs. Using any other EVSE (the cable with the box and the plug you got with the car) won't void your warranty. The car doesn't even know, what EVSE is being plugged in. The pilot signal only...

    Charging Fault error.

I'm sorry for you. Apparently, this is what they changed from MY2015 to MY2016 Kia SOUL EV. MY2015 charges at full speed at every amp number the EVSE tells the car to charge and MY2016 does it at 10-15% slower - at every speed. If it's set to 10A, it will charge at 8.5 Amps and so on. Either...
