Rising Chinese EV Sales

Sat Jul 11, 2015 10:34 pm

As far as I know the Kia Soul EV does not sell in China, but this news is still highly important.
See the stats here - http://ev-sales.blogspot.kr/2015/06/china-may-2015.html
And note the second best seller is BAIC E-Series EV with 4297 sales in the first five months.
This car uses the same battery pack from SK Innovation as the Kia Soul EV.
And currently the yearly production for that battery pack is 15000.
There is now way sales of Kia Soul EV. can increase by much until extra battery production is added.
The plans for that expansion are mentioned here. - http://english.hankyung.com/news/apps/n ... 4281409451
SK Innovation gears up again to expand its electric car battery business. According to industry sources on April 27, SK Innovation plans to double the output in its electric car battery plant in Seosan in South Chungcheong Province. To this end, SK Innovation is working on expansion of the plant.
At present, the Seosan plant is capable of producing 15,000 units of electric car batteries per year. Once the expansion work is completed, the company expects the plant to be able to produce up to 30,000 units of electric car batteries per year.
A company official said, “The expansion of the Seosan plant is to meet the rising demand from Kia Motors’ electric car Soul EV and Beijing Auto’s EV 200 and EV 210.”

The BAIC EV 150/160/200 has now sold 8,244 in 8 months.
For a look at this car http://chinaautoweb.com/car-models/baic-ev200/

Note this has the same battery pack as the Soul EV.
Let's hope the new production comes on line soon, because we are about to reach the 15,000 limit.
