Kia Motors has announced the Soul EV pricing for the Korean market.

The price is set at 42 million won, which, after government grants, is about 21 million won out-of-pocket expense.

Converted to US dollars is around $19,700. What are the chances this is the price the Soul will come in at (after incentives of course) in the US?

I think we have to look at the pre-incentive price in South Korea to make a comparison.

42 million won is more like $39,400. Did Kia price the Soul EV at that because of the generous South Korean grants, or because that's what they need to price it at to make money?

If the latter, then when it hits the US shores it will be priced similarly, and will be too high to sell well.

If the USD, post-subsidy price is under $20K, then Nissan will finally have a LEAF challenger to deal with!

$39,400? Plus shipping from Korea? Looks like I'll have to stay with the LEAF, especially if they roll out a 150 mile range model around $35,000. But, maybe this will be different come the fall?
