we live in the HOT Phoenix-Chandler area. The fans runs a lot too keep the battery and controller cool. I never charge in the closed garage or it makes a heat cycle with no outside fresh air. Off Peak after 9 PM is cooler and good for the GRID.
On hot nights and days here in Phoenix a fan runs while charging. I looked in the back under the storage area and the fan goes into the closed box with no outside air vent. How is that cooling the battery when all the heat can't get out? It seems they should vent it outside. Did KIA forget...
First of all a DC Fast charge does not use any on board charger in the car. It goes direct DC to the battery.
The car communicates with the DC Fast Charger you plug into. It tells it to slow down at a little over 81%. It should continue until the battery is 100% full but depends on the equipment...
don't worry, go for 100% if you need it or feel more comfortable.
The battery cooling is the key to long life batteries. This chemistry and cooling should make it last 20 years or more.
The SOUL EV has the best chemistry and cooling of any EV.
We average 5.1 mile per kWh. We drive like we care and have a good 100-120 mile range even with the air cond on and at highway speeds of 55-60. We live in the HOT Phoenix, AZ area.
Adjust the loose nut behind the wheel and you get great range all the time.
I got a green card from NRG with our SOUL EV. It's a no charge to charge card like Nissan has for the LEAF. I thought it was for 2 years BUT after using it on the new NRG DC Fast Chargers in our area I got a bill and they say it was only good for 60 days from purchase. How could I know? Their...
So far all of our KIA SOUL EV vehicles are doing great. Range continues to stay better than we expected with all drivers getting 100 mile range even in COLD, HEAT with Air Cond on etc. Many of us had a LEAF and they all lost 10-15% every HOT summer. We have just had one hot summer and no loss...
Always lease as the technology changes so fast. If it holds up good you can buy really low at the end of lease.
We got zero down , 3 year lease, 12k miles a year for #330 a month.
Buy out at end of lease at $15K
I also have a Juice Box and it runs great. I use the Time Of Day feature which is very handy. I also have the remote and have moved the amps down in the HOT summer to keep the fans and cooling from kicking in. It is very flexible unlike any other EVSE I could find.
I've also seen the car pull...
We had leased two LEAF a 2011 then 2013. We also have just switched a 3 years SOUL EV lease 0 down $330 a month. We can buy it after 3 years for $15K. It's an amazing step up. The new 2015 LEAF is very nice and has the Heat Tolerant battery and better range. Their 2016 will even have 100+ ranges...
Good point on the smart key operation. A friend drove away in his Prius and didn't have the key with him. It was on a ledge in his garage. He luckily noticed and had to drive 30 miles back home to get it. If not one he turned it off he would have been stuck.
I think a Tesla auto locks after you...
So far all of our 2015 KIA SOUL EVs have been doing great. No problems and great range even at 60-70 on the highway.
We had a 100 Electric Mile Rally for our Phoenix Elec Auto Association and local Tesla owners club. My wife and a friend went 109 miles and still had 16% (about 16 miles) left on...
We just got our SOUL EV a few weeks ago. When I set up my wife's android SamSung S4 cell phone on the Bluetooth the phone always goes into Headset mode, we of course can't heard and have to pull the phone out and push the headset icon on the phone to go to normal which then disconnects from the...
We have at least 3 of us that have the new SOUL EV in the greater Phoenix area. We ordered them from California. We will be doing extensive HEAT testing and measure the battery capacity to be sure it can take our HEAT.
We get a high of about 122F but on the dark asphalt it can reach 160F. The...
