FAN cooling while charging

On hot nights and days here in Phoenix a fan runs while charging. I looked in the back under the storage area and the fan goes into the closed box with no outside air vent. How is that cooling the battery when all the heat can't get out? It seems they should vent it outside. Did KIA forget something in the design?

There are vents on each side of the vehicle. Lift out the black foam divider box and you can see them.
