Getting a power inverter - what size to not drain the 12v battery too quickly?

If you are going to use the inverter with the car in "ON" mode, so that the dc/dc converter is powered, the limitation is not the battery, but the output of the converter. The converter 12V output is in parallel with the battery, so, if the battery is fully charged, it will just float across...

    SoulSpy no longer displaying SOH?

Mine is a 2018, and admittedly in a much milder climate, but it is still showing 100%. My own "home brew" calculations suggest the real value is between 101 and 102%, and I assume the BMS never reports greater than 100%. Most people agree that the SOH=100% state is quite a bit less capacity...

    Odd SoulSpy readings

Update: The E400 recall was published in UK in February, but my car is not included. When I pressed them, they said not all electrical/electronic units were the same build, so that could be the reason. But its all governed by the system, so no common sense deployed. I just have to hope all...

New tyres for Kia Soul 2018 EV car

I assume your statement " which are also the standard tire size of Kia Soul 2018 EV car (205/60R15 92H)" has a typo, and that it should be 205/60R16 . I suggest you use the comparison feature of this calculator to see the effect of the changes you asked about. You will see that in all cases...

    Odd SoulSpy readings

I would add to that the 2018 model with E400 battery cells which has not yet received the updated BMS and harness. That is certainly true of mine - the SoulEV Spy app was updated to recognise this variant, and it takes advantage of the BMS data to report SOH (presumably the SOH data was not...

BMS Battery recall - False warnings.

On the contrary, I opined that you could not possibly know that you were correct and were simply expressing an opinion which could result in danger if embraced.

BMS Battery recall - False warnings.

Just because you haven't experienced a fire doesn't mean you won't. Spinning the revolver cylinder and pulling the trigger without result does not mean the gun is unloaded.

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

The author of SoulSpy told me he did not know what the parameters SOC_precise_pct and SOC_pct were, and he assigned the names by guesswork. From recent discussion (see post #214) it appears that SOC_pct is BMS SoC, SOC_display_pct is what the dash says, and SOC_precise_pct is unknown. My...

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

Thanks andrew1joe, that makes it much clearer. I'll take note of the values next time I charge to 100%.

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

If the BMS SOC shown by Car Scanner shows how much of the original capacity is remaining, it seems to me to be identical to the SOH. If I'm wrong I'd like to know why.

Battery Recall for cars with E400 high-voltage battery.

Going back to post #209, and trying to understand - what is the difference between SOC(BMS) and SOH?

    ABS Malfunction?

Come to think of it, it hasn't happened to me since I changed the tyres from the low rolling resistance type to Goodyear 4Seasons Gen3. Perhaps that's because of better grip, so the ABS is not having to act. It really needs a skid pan to test it, but there isn't one in the island.

    ABS Malfunction?

Thanks for posting. I haven't noticed a fault indication when it has happened to me. If it happens again, it would be good to get the KIA dealer to check for a historic fault code. Of course. there may not be one. When I had an intermittent defective valve in the HVAC system, the yellow...

Kia dealer has my SoulEV for 3+ months

I do not appear to have the facility to set a second timer for charging. I assume that was deleted at the same time as the 80% option was removed. though I cannot see why they would do that. It's not a problem for me, as I don't have off-peak rates, so I use the timer only to aim for an ~80%...

Kia dealer has my SoulEV for 3+ months

My 2018 model does not do that. If you plug it in later than the start time, it starts charging straight away.

    Soul Spy BMS numbers

Mine (2018 model) used to say that, but the app was updated and it now says 100% - I think that's because the BMS does not report values greater than 100%. Check whether you have the latest version of the app.

    Soul Spy BMS numbers

The author has stated that he did not know what those items were, and he just guessed. I think the one labelled Battery SOC% is the one likely to be closest to what the KIA diagnostic system outputs. On 2018 models (i.e. with the E400 battery cells) the App states it is the figure output by...

    All season tire

Probably, but so small as to be unnoticeable. Maybe 1 or 2 miles between charges.

    All season tire

I am very pleased with my Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen3. Grip is a lot better than the low rolling resistance tires I had.

Kia dealer has my SoulEV for 3+ months

I remember reading a post about a non-KIA repair to the OBC - apparently there are two large capacitors in the device which were not (in the early cars) up to the job. The post gave advice on where to get suitable replacements, and also how to install. Removal instructions here. There may be...
