Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

I wouldn’t say that...I think he was very lucky, that his house didn’t burn down! Looks like it could have easily happened , and would have been tragic.

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

I just checked my rental agreement, and the total turn around time was just under a month (6/23 to 7/20). It was a bit less painful for me, as Kia of Irvine had an account with a nearby Enterprise location, and I didn't have to front the money for the rental. I just saw it as a chance to...

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

You should be able to tell by looking at the part numbers on the work order, if you were provided with a copy. I'll note that I asked about this possibility when the battery was replaced on my 2015, and was told that it would be a straight like-for-like replacement...no upgrade. The part...

Kia found OBC unit & battery cells to be faulty!

Just had my battery, battery management system, and on-board charger replaced by Kia of Irvine. Car was at about 32 months / 32k miles, and had degraded to about 54 miles at full charge. This was the second replacement of the OBC.

    Southern California

Wow, I could have written that first sentence: Soul+, Titanium Gray, Kia of Cerritos, Juicebox...Same! I'm in Aliso Viejo.

Level 1 and 2 Charging Module Failure ..

Ugh...That's not good. Sorry you had to endure that. Let's hope that problem isn't endemic.

New York Times test drives Soul EV - video review

It was the forward looking questions: They didn't just ask how I liked the color choice, but also which other colors I would like to see offered. They didn't just ask about how I like the wheels, but they also asked me to pick from several new designs. They also asked a lot of questions about...

New York Times test drives Soul EV - video review

When I was filling out the Early Buyers' Study survey online, I got the strong feeling that Kia isn't done with the Soul EV, and perhaps other EV efforts.

    Changing headlight bulb

Ahhh...yes. The first step is to remove the plastic "dust covers". They get about a 1/8 turn ccw. Turn them until they stop, and then grab the "fins" and pull straight back out. These can be a little tight because of a silicone gasket.

    Changing headlight bulb

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the kit. Removing the bulbs is not too bad. Just takes about a 1/4 counterclockwise twist. One, I was able to do by hand. But the other was sticky, and I think I ended up using a 19mm open-end wrench to apply some leverage...Nothing was damaged.

    Driving distance diminishing quickly

Yes, sort of...I've seen a slight decline in range displayed when fully charged. I chalk this up to the algorithm which learns how I drive the car. I certainly don't drive optimally for range (no ECO mode, heavy on the pedal). So I expect the car to show me less than 93 miles, but I also...

Any Soul EV owners using Juicebox EVSE?

I think you should check your circuit and wiring. I have my Juicebox set to 32 Amp max, and I've never seen it draw more than 31A (usually 30). If you're popping a 40 Amp breaker, it sounds like something's wrong.

    OEM cargo tray

I really doubt it. The EV's batteries change the layout back there. For instance, there's no space for a spare in the EV.

    Changing headlight bulb

The H7 headlight bulbs can get a bit stuck against the retention springs. It can take strong fingers (or in my case, some help from a spanner) to loosen them. I just upgraded to a Morimoto HID kit. The upgrade required a "6 o'clock" modification, and a capacitor to filter out the pulsed input...

    Kia Soul EV Mood Lighting?

Hmm...Interesting find in the manual. Doesn't seem to be an option on US models. My daughter has the mood lighting in her 2013 Soul +. It seems to be a hit with the kids...

Any Soul EV owners using Juicebox EVSE?

6.6kW is how much power the charger provides to the battery. But that involved an AC to DC conversion, which is not 100% efficient. (You'll know this when you hear the Soul EV's fan kick on randomly while charging, to cool off some of the heat generated by the conversion process.) I'm...

Any Soul EV owners using Juicebox EVSE?

Yup. If you download the kit assembly instructions pdf from their site, it will should show you the right POT. Your problem will be determining the current. You'll need a clamp-on ammeter, or something.

Any Soul EV owners using Juicebox EVSE?

If you ordered it with a 40 Amp J1772 cable, I will guess that they set up the box for max 30 or 32 amps. I'm sure they'll respond to your email...

Any Soul EV owners using Juicebox EVSE?

I've done almost exactly what you plan: I purchased the base Juicebox kit, with a few extras (current sensor, wireless remote, lcd display, 10 ft. input cable, mounting bracket) and assembled it myself. My garage was wired for 240V using 8 guage wire, so I installed a 14-50R receptacle, and I...
