eSoul Spy?

There is now an Android app (in beta) for the Soul EV 2014-2019 (see http://www.mykiasoulev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=135), as well as Torque Pro definitions and OVMS support, for reading out data from the 2014-2019 Soul EVs.

I own an e-Soul 2020, and I would like to start a similar project, in order to gather info about the internal systems in the car. Ultimately with the goal of being able to decode internal communications, and read out interesting values from the car; using Torque Pro, OVMS or mobile apps.

I suspect that the PIDs are the same as for the Kona and Niro EV.

You are right!

I configured my OVMS v3.1 for Kia e-Niro, and connected it to my Kia e-Soul 2020: It reads SOC, BMS voltages, current and temperatures, aux battery voltage, current and SOC, etc.

Have been geeking out (for a week before and) since getting my first EV, a 2020 64kwh Canadian version 2 days ago!! I want to know and follow the voltages in each of the 294 cells in the battery, so I plan to buy the Konnwei KW902 Bluetooth OBDII, the Soul EV Spy app and a cheap android phone. Do I need some minimum features on the phone? (I plan to take photos on my iPhone to store the data.) I am not as techy as some, and I have never before cared about how cars worked (but now I do!!) Will this be simple &/or worth me pursuing or should I avoid at all cost?

A related question: Does anyone know if the 2020 Kias still have NMC 622 cells or have they started using NMC 811 cells?

The Soul EV Spy app now has a Quick start users' guide with a FAQ: https://evranger.com/soul-ev-spy-users'-guide.html

Q: Which version of the Android OS does the app require?
Android ver 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or newer.

If you buy the Soul EV Spy app, it stores the data in .csv files on the android device.

The cells are connected 3 cells in parallel, so for each of the 98 groups of 3 cells, Soul EV Spy displays the voltage.

Soul EV Spy been released for BETA-test, in a new version, 1.0.4-946.
It displays battery SOH% on the car page, for all Hyundai and Kia EV's, also the Kia e-Soul 2020. If the app has not retrieved the SOH-value from the BMS, the reason why not, is displayed on the car page.
It also has translations for Finnish texts now.
