For comparison here is the auto-parking I oniq EV (not currently on sale). I will post a photo of the regular I oniq EV below it so you can see the difference.
This auto-parking I oniq EV is more advanced than the one currently on sale, but much less advanced than the Soul EV in the Drivewise demonstrations. see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=480

Here is the regular I oniq EV. Only one button changed. (The OK button)

Smart Parking Assist System seems to be available for the MY2017 Soul
see - http://www.kia.com/eu/campaigns-and-redirects/soul/

Update: (28 Aug 2016) I am no longer sure that is true. There was no mention of the auto park function at the release of the MY2017 Soul here in Korea.
The link above is not working for me to go back and check what was originally posted on that Kia site.

Toyota has had an Intelligent Parking Assist System since 2003.
Hyundai's response up until now has been that it is cheaper to pay the valet than install the necessary sensors.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What we have seen on this thread is the APAS system (Automated Parking Assist System)
There is another video of this here.
It has not yet been released and there is no hint of when it will be available on the Soul EV.

This system has 12 sensors. 4 front and back and two on each side. (That is 4 more sensors than our current cars.)
There is also an Advanced Smart Parking Assist System(Advanced SPAS) in the pipeline.
This utilizes a network of external cameras and sensors. see http://pr.kia.com/en/wow/drive-wise/dri ... -assist.do

I had the automatic parking feature on my i3. I never once used it in the two years and 21000 miles I had the car. If you can't park a car the size of the i3 or the Soul EV by yourself, you probably should not be driving! :) Plus, many i3 owners who did use the self parking feature stopped using it after they realized it often parked the car so close to the curb that the rims got badly "curbed." :)

The standard BMW i 3 has Park Distance Control, which is the same as we get.

Code: Select all

Ultrasound sensors integrated into the bumper at the rear of your BMW measure the distance to the nearest large object behind the vehicle. As you reverse closer, the frequency of the warning tone increases. When you're just 30 cm from the car or other obstacle, an unbroken warning tone sounds, as a signal to brake.
see http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/tech ... ntrol.html

For $1000 extra you get the Parking Assistant Package.
Tiburonh I am curious why did you pay the $1000 for something you never used?

I assume Kia will also make the autopark feature an expensive addon option for their non-luxury cars.

Hi Jeju Soul-

BMW is quite clever in how they market their "packages." All that is standard on the i3 is the rear bumper parking sensors. In order to get the rear view camera and the front sensors, they make you buy the package that includes the stupid self parking feature. :)

As far as I know the sensors and rear view camera are standard on all Soul EVs.

I just checked that the autopark feature isn't currently available on any Kia cars yet.
But am fairly sure that it will be an optional package in a year or two.

The I oniq EV already has a related optional package : The Safety Package for $1500
You get AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking), ASCC (Advanced Smart Cruise Control), and LKAS (Lane Keeping Assistance System)
and presumably the necessary radars to make these systems work.

I am betting that this safety package is included as an optional extra for the Soul EV next year. (MY2018)

 in the Kia Optima, too, you have all required sensors transfered, for sure, in the next Soul (and EV).

http://www.kutechvideos.com/

when you visit all models of 2017, all have the 3 features.

it's cool because i can drive behind a truck and use lane feature and smart cruise feature to help.

Hmm, on July 21st I posted above that automatic parking would be available in Europe for MY2017. But I withdrew that claim because I can't find any real links or prices. Can you confirm this.

I just checked again on the Korean sites. I could not find any 2017 Kia models with auto park.
The 2017 Kia K5 PHEV (Optima) does not have auto park.
The 2017 N iro HEV has a Driving Safety option which costs $1750 It includes Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) ,Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) , Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and a 4 inch Nav screen. It does not have auto park. The standard trim N iro comes with a 3.5 inch Navigation screen. The full 8 inch screen comes with the Navigation option which costs $1430.

For Hyundai: Only the S onata PHEV has auto park.
The 2017 S onata PHEV does have an auto park option. Its called the Convenience Package and costs $830. It includes the Advanced Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS), driving position memory system and side curtains.
The 2017 S onata PHEV also has a Driving Assist option which costs $1830 It includes Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) ,Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) , Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Smart Hi-Beam. See http://pr.kia.com/en/wow/drive-wise/dri ... -assist.do for details of these options.

The 2017 Grandeur HEV also has the Driving Assist option which costs $775. I guess the cameras / radars / sensors were already included in the standard trim. Couldn't find auto park.

I don't think the APAS auto-park system with 12 ultrasonic sensors will ever be released. It is more likely that a more advanced version such as the Advanced Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) will be.

There is discussion of the newer tech and sensors here - Advanced Driving Assistance pack (ADAP)
