Tailgate does not lock with the rest of the doors.

Our tailgate, since day One, does not lock with the rest of the car. Eventually (about five minutes, I think) it decides to latch, but NOTHING I can do will lock it right now.

Any ideas? I can't imagine the dealership will actually be able to DO anything...

Are they keys in your pocket?

If they keys are in the proximity of the door, you can just open it.
Try locking it, place the keys far away, and try to open it then.?.?
